Hackney Hammers 'Em in Lake Oneida's Grass
Bassmaster Elite at lake Oneida, New York
August 13 - 16, 2009
4 of the Top 12 finishers at Lake Oneida were using Quantum rods and reels.
What Hackney used:
TGHC7117F rod and a E100SPT
Quantum pros were dominant at the last regular season event on the 2009 Bassmaster Elite Series schedule. Lake Oneida is a healthy fishery, and Quantum pros like Greg Hackney proved it.
A mix of aquatic vegetation generically referred to as “grass” among anglers was the key for Hackney. “This a place has just about any type of aquatic grass that bass are known to love. I was flipping a 1-ounce Strike King Hack Attack jig tipped with a Rage Craw trailer on Cajun Red 50-pound line. I keyed on roughly 10 grass-filled spots in 7 to12 feet of water,” said the 2009 FLW Championship winner.
“I’m back in the mode of not fishing for paychecks, but instead fishing to win. That’s how I was when I first started fishing professionally. Nobody knew me, there were no expectations or pressure, so I just went out and swung for the fences. But as success came, I felt pressure, and I sort of locked-up, but now I’m back to fishing freely, not worrying about what others expect of me and instead swinging for the fences like I used to,” said Hackney.
