QUANTUM BRIDGES THE YOUTH GAP WITH ADVANCED TACKLE
FOR 9 – 14 YEAR-OLDS

Every parent knows how hard it is to keep kids in the 9-14 age group in clothes and shoes that fit. Adult anglers also find it equally frustrating in trying to equip youth in this same age range with the right-sized rods and reels. By age 9, most kids who have fished for awhile are ready to advance to the more versatile spinning and baitcast gear, the type of tackle they typically have seen mom and dad using for some time, but the kind they've been told is too "hard" to use or that the gear is too big for them. And often, even first- and second-year teenagers don't quite yet have the height and hands for a proper fit to adult tackle. Well, thanks to Quantum, this tackle-gap is now closed.

Quantum's new Advanced Youth System rod and reel series is made especially for 9-14 year-olds. Designated as AVS v2.0, the series consists of two spinning rod and reel combos and two baitcast combos, with all versions custom sized to fit the stature of youngsters in the age group.

"AVS fishing gear is designed specifically for young anglers with advanced fishing capabilities and greater fishing skills," said Quantum's Scott Smith, the brand manager responsible for the introduction. "These products are the result of our having studied young fishermen of all levels and visited with the adults who take them. As a parent of boys in this age group myself, this has been both a fun and rewarding project. Without a doubt, AVS is a good fit for kids who are at a higher level of fishing expertise."

The spinning rods feature quality one-piece IM7 graphite blanks, offering strength, durability and sensitivity. Their handles are of a split-grip design, just like the style that most professional anglers prefer.

The QAV2SP-10 spinning model features a 10-size spinning reel that holds 125 yards of 4 pound test line on a 5'8" one-piece, medium-light rod. The QAV2SP-20 sports a 20-size spinning reel capable of holding 140 yards of 6 pound test line and matched to a 6'2" one-piece, medium action rod. Both reels feature 6 bearings, Continuous Anti-Reverse, aluminum long-stroke spools and 5.2:1 gear ratios.

The baitcast reels feature 6-bearing systems, Continuous Anti-Reverse, MaxCast skeletal spools, high-speed 6.3:1 gear ratios, and hold approximately 150 yards of 10 pound test line. The baitcast rods are quality one-piece IM7 graphite blanks with lightweight Thin-D guides, and also have split-grip handles.

Both the spinning and the baitcast combos look as good as they fish, giving young anglers pride in ownership and a lesson in responsible tackle care. The spinning rod and reel combos sell for around $39.99 each, and the baitcast versions for about $59.99 each.

"There is little question that the youth fishing marketplace is ready for this quality of tackle. . .we see it with other products like golf clubs, tennis rackets, baseball bats, archery gear — equipment that has been designed for the younger avid participants," Smith added. "Fishing is a serious activity today in millions of households and these young anglers now have product that will enhance their abilities and enjoyment."

The AVS v2.0 spinning and baitcast combos are on the market now, and would be a great gift choice for any serious young angler for the upcoming holiday season.
